November Purple Haze Sketch Winner!!

The winner for this month's sketch challenge is Amy Garrett with her "Perfect" lo.

What a fun and fanciful page she made using Suepup's sketch.  The Prima vine playfully  joins into the Zva flourish, beautifully connecting with the sweet fairy that is dancing her spell.  Amy's darling dd just brightens up this page with giggles and charm.  The tie die masking gives this page a little bit of groovy style tying into the Magic tag and peace sign brad.  Delightful page Amy!  Congrats!!!

November Layout of the Month

The layout of the month for November is:

"Fremantle Festival"
by Rebecca aka Bexta76

This devilishly dark and sinister page just draws you in, doesn't it?  Rebecca used the Purple Haze kit to put this fabulous masterpiece together.  The geared bg was wonderfully put together to make this page work like a shiny new clock.  She split and molded the Prima vine to fit around the photo adding some Petaloo flowers in the corner, really bringing in a feminine touch to the masculinity of all the gears.  Both the page and photo portray a sense of Beauty and the Beast!  Well done Rebecca!!!  Congrats!

October All Hallows' Eve Sketch Winner

The winner for this month's sketch challenge is...... Michelle aka Bubbachooka.  Congrats!!!!

Your "Nice Kitty" lo is a terrific interrperation of Suepup's sketch.  The photo just stands out with those spell binding kitty eyes.  The traditional Halloween colors puts you right in the mood for a spooky fright!  All the sparkle shines from the spiders and web.  Using the ribbon vine around the circle was a perfect touch.  Thank you for sharing this beautiful creation with us Michelle!!

Congratulations To Our Stalker Challenge Winner!

This month's Stalker Challenge challenged it's participants to stalk the internet or their files for a black and white image, and to then scrap their layout in a black and white or black and cream color scheme. They could have some touches of color, but at least 80 % had to be black and white or black and cream.

This month's winner ChiLvr met that challenge and created a layout titled Kiss and Hug which featured a uber adorable photo of her Grandbabies. The Black and White pps she chose and her multi circle design went so perfectly with her photo and her flowers were just a wonderful accent.

Congratulations!! You did an outstanding job on the challenge and you will receive a special goodie from me in your December kit, enjoy!

**October Layout of the Month**

The layout of the month for October is.....

"Dracula" by Beth aka Rabbit51!!!

This bewitching page just entices you for more, just go ahead and bite!!!!  Beth used the All Hallows' Eve kit to make this fabulous dark and creepy page.  The Kasiercraft 13th Hour Acetate shapes and Pink Paislee Phantom frames were wonderfully used to show off these classic "Dracula" movie images.  The Scrapmatt tree branches covering the one image gives a very eerie feeling sending chills down your spine.  The lantern was a brillant vintage touch.  Your collage is outstanding Beth!!  Thank you for sharing this creation with us and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Meet Our Newest Designers!

Our latest Design Team Call has ended, and before I introduce our new Designers, I'd like to thank everybody who submitted an application.  You all have so much talent, and it was a very hard choice!

And now, I'm so excited to introduce our new DT members!

Karolina Stopyra aka Drycha

Hi! I'm Karolina Stopyra a.k.a. Drycha from Poland. I have boyfriend and almost black cat. By now I'm in jewelery school but before I passed the exam for the cook (trade school too).
I love to learn new techniques and bring them together. I made a lot of things; scrapbooking, cardmaking, jewelry, art dolls and others... I became interested in scrapbooking in spring 2008, love this form due to a combination of many elements.
I hope that you'll like my works, I'm so honored to be here!

 Rachelle Sigurdson aka Rachie Babe

I am married to my husband of 33 years, have 3 sons 30, 26 and; 23. I am kind of in the empty nest, but not quite yet as my boys keep coming home for lots of visits. When my boys started to leave home I did a crazy thing, I started with 1 dog and it slowly worked up to 5.
I love to scrapbook and garden, and always have to be on the go!!!! I will be 55 in Nov.

And some exciting and fun news, I am sure you all know who Escape Kitty is, she has become quite the celebrity!  I spoke with Escape Kitty, and she has agreed to be our new Mascot DT!

Escape Kitty - Mascot DT

Let me introduce myself. I am Escape Kitty. Until now, you probably only found me under JRABS artwork or Jennifer Snyder, but I have escaped out from under her. And I say YIPPEE to that! I have been all over the world and I firmly believe I am big enough now to be on my own (but still have my mom pay my bills! LOL) I got my start on Sept 1, 2010 as I was out playing in the yard enjoying the birds and squirrels. Really just minding my own business. Happy. Content. Daydreaming. When, but in an instant, I caught a movement in the corner of my eye. Since cats are noted for their superior vision, I had to do a double take because I thought my eyesight had failed me. I shut my kitty eyes for a moment and reopened them to disbelief. A coyote? In MY yard? Could it be? And he's drooling my way? Move move move! Find my mom . Run to safety. Big mistake! Really big mistake. Now she never lets me outside. Done - left to dream. ahhhhh but Kitty dreams really do come true. I am so very proud to be the newest Diva designer here at Scraps Of Darkness. So come follow me! I am off to Escape.   copywrite 2011 Escape Kitty

I'm very happy to announce that Renea Harrison will be staying on as one of our Designers, and Cheryl Casas will be staying on as our Mistress of Mayhem!

I'd like to thank Celina Matthews for all the beautiful work she has done here at Scraps of Darkness, I know she has provided much inspiration to everyone!

And I'll end the post with a little bit of eye candy and preview of the fun layouts you will see from Escape Kitty!

~*~September Layout of the Month~*~

The layout of the month for September is...

Messy by Chaton_13 (aka Sarah)!!!

Sarah's photo editing makes this page pop! Those pink lips grab your attention then you look around the page to look at all the wonderful masking and "mess". The brick masking, cup stain rub on, and splatters of inks and mists really bring home the messy-ness! The gears are a great addition, and the Bo Bunny Et Cetera paper and cool title alphas bring in a touch of vintage to go with the photo.

Congratulations, Sara!

SOD Design Team Call!

Scraps of Darkness kit club is looking for designers to add to our talented Design Team!  If you love the alternative side of scrapbooking or would like to venture into this realm, then we encourage you to try out!!

Commitment is important, so we want to be straightforward with what we are looking for.  We want to see ambitious, outgoing, forum savvy scrappers that share in the same love as we do.  This DT position will start with our November, 2011 kit and end with our April, 2012 kit.

This Call is open to both US and International submissions, though International DT Members will be required to share in the cost of shipping kits to them.

Here is what we will need from you:

1. You must complete a minimum of 5 layouts/cards/projects per month and have 4 of them ready to upload by reveal day, which is the 15th of every month, and additional layouts/projects should be uploaded prior to the release of the next kit. These layouts need to be placed in the SOD gallery, blogs, scrapbook.com, and any other public galleries that you participate in.

2. Daily participation on our forum and a daily check in on our Design Team forum, as well as keeping up in the galleries is a must. DT responsibilities, such as posting a Question of The Week, will be rotated amongst our DT and we would also like you to start new threads that encourage posting by our members.

3. You must complete at least 2 tutorials within your 6 month DT term for SOD. These can be either photo or video tutorials.

In return for your commitment, you will receive the entire main kit, as well as two kit add-ons free of charge each month. You will also have the option of purchasing any additional add-ons featured throughout the months you are a DT at a 50% discount.  Design Team Members also receive a 30% discount in our store.

Here is how to apply:

Please send all applications and attachments to
us.
Please include the following:

1. Name, Address, Phone Number

2. Submit three layouts/altered items total - Include two layouts that show us your alternative side or the darker side of your work. For example: Distressed, Grunge, Steampunk, Mixed Media, Dark, etc. Then also include a third layout or altered item that you would say is your favorite or best, and this can be any style.

3. Tell us why you think you would be a good addition to the SOD team.

4. Provide links to blogs and galleries, and any resume you may have.

5. List of all current DT commitments, and please note that our designers may not design for or in any way advertise other kit clubs. We have no problem with DT members designing for manufacturers, sketch sites, local stores, etc, but it is counterproductive to have them advertise our competitors.

All submissions must be received by October 22, 2011 and we will have an official public announcement by October 24th!!

Winner of July/September Skeletons in the Closet Challenge!

Please join in us in congratulating CHRISTINE for her wonderfully innovative layout titled
" Ocean of Secrets"
This challenge required scrapping an object not a person, and using a title, saying or quote that we would all be familiar with. The artist also needed to let us know how it related to her life.
Christine says:
"My quote is from none other than Titanic, one of my all time favorite movies. There are 3 reasons I chose this quote. 1-the ocean is my favorite thing ever. 2-I love the movie. 3-the quote rings true to me."

Congratulations Christine!

Ashley's page is so full of texture and detail! Don't you just love the fussy cutting, bling, and flowers? The spots she created on the page give it the feeling of being wild and the miniature frames are an adorable touch! Such a fresh and funky couple's layout!

July's Layout of the Month is....

Katherine by NMscrapper!

This page captures so much beauty and elegance! The design is amazing and the way that the colors gradually change in the background paper looks divine. The border punching around the layout give this page a wonderful lacey look, too. The orange flowers give it just that extra pop of color on a dynamically brilliant papers! The bling adds the perfect amount of sparkle and that photo is a treasure. A truly fantastic heritage page!

July Skeletons in the Closet Challenge Winner!!!!

Christine
aka
CharliesAngel

This is what Christine had to say about her wonderful creation for this challenge.
" This was my take on Lisa's Skeleton's In The Closet Challenge over at Scraps of Darkness (LOVE her SITC Challenge!) Anyway, the challenge was to scrap the emotion and/or feeling you get when you hear the song "iris" by the goo goo dolls WITHOUT using a picture. The first line always bring me back in time when Charles was living 1000 miles away and we only got to see each other every 3 months or so. This layout depicts emotions and challenges that we went though during that time, and even afterwards. Lots of symbolism here. All the music imagery is because that is how we met in the first place. I found his band on myspace.com, and after a long while of being just friends and me being a fan of his music, for whatever reason, he gave me his phone number. I called him, and not long after that I was head over heels. I fell in love before I ever met him in person. I would meet him some 5 months or so after we first began communicating, and his music was often the only way I could really feel close to him. The ipod on my layout shows his band's name, and the name of a song he wrote for me. The state of texas with the red heart right over the dallas area..since that's where my heart was. The broken heart showing how I felt most of the time, even though his love made me feel like my heart was flying most of the time, too. The girl is me, crying black tears and stiched x's across the mouth to represent that which was unspoken. God brought Charles to me. I've learned so much from him and the experience, I have barely scratched the surface of what this layout represents. "

If you haven't already, go check out the latest Skeletons in the Closet Challenge. All are welcome to participate using any products. We would love to have you!
