Two Summer / Beach layouts - June Seaside kit!

Summer time just screams for fun layouts at the beach!!  In keeping with the tradition, Scraps of Darkness' June Kit "Seaside" is perfect for all those wonderful times at the coast.  Even though Alaska has more coastline than the "Lower 48" in geographical miles, it is not sandy, nor warm.  All of the beaches are silty from the glacier fun off and very rocky, not to mention COLD water.  So, if you want to go swimming you can take a dip in one of our many local lakes, but they are not necessarily warm either LOL!  My layout this week is a series of pictures of my Grandson's at South Rolly Lake just north of Anchorage.  They had such a good time that day.

For the background paper I chose a whimsical paper from 49th and Market included in the Main Kit.  I used Gabi's Line Stitch stamp from 49th and Market at the top, and across the middle.  This stamp came in a previous kit and is so versatile.
I found a new LOVE...the Art Alchemy Impasto Paint included in the Creativity Add On works so perfectly for stenciling.  You can see where I used it on the background.  Try it, you will not be sorry with your results.
I added some fun bubble die cuts using a Memory Box die, which I think worked great for the layout.  You can also see the Prills I used all over the layout which comes in the Creativity Add On.  You can also see the bubble sticker embellishments from 49th and Market that comes in the Elements Add On.

Next I used a wonky arrow circle chipboard from Creative Embellishments from my stash.  I used the Art Alchemy Coral Reef paint from the Color Add On.  What a fun, perfect color.

Underneath the chipboard at the bottom I tucked in some cheesecloth that I sprayed with Prima's Bloom "Peony".  It matches the color on the chipboard exactly.  Then I went wild with glass glitter, Prills and more 49th and Market bubbles.  What fun!!!!!

I created a couple flower clusters using 49th and Market blooms from the Floral and Creativity Add Ons.  Just adore those flowers.  Course I topped them off with more Prills.
In the middle of the circle to the left I added that adorable seahorse, from the same 49th and Market embellishment series.  You can see the cute little jellyfish I used in the right flower cluster.

Now to share with you my 3rd layout using the Scraps of Darkness June Kit "Seaside".  This layout features my Grandson, Chase enjoying the beauty of Alaska.  We are so blessed to live in this gorgeous State.

"Seaside" contains a collection of Kaisercraft "High Tide" and 49th & Market "Sand and Sea".  Love both of these collections.  I used the Kaisercraft collection for this layout.  Just love the nautical theme, and neutral colors.

I used the Kaisercraft paper included in the Patterned Paper Add On for my background.  On the left side is a stripe border which I cut from another paper in the same Add On.  At the top is border sticker which comes in the Main Kit.  The layers were created using other papers in the same collection.  Burlap was used to mat the photo.

To add texture, I used the Impasto Paint from the Creativity Add On through a stencil.  Love this new product from Art Alchemy.

I wanted to create a fun collage of flowers and pelican on the left bottom side of the lo.  I applied some cheesecloth in this area.  Then, I fussy cut the pelican and pilings from the 49th and Market paper included in the Patterned Paper Add On.

I added lots of different elements into the collage that are included in the Elements, Creativity, and Floral Add Ons.  I think the 3-D seaweed embellishment from the Elements Add On from 49th and Market pulls the lo together.

I used the Prima off white flowers from the Floral Add On at the top of the title as well.

I used the Blue Fern Studio Anchor chipboard at the bottom of the photo, which I embossed with their Antique Gold embossing powder from a previous kit.  I also added Art Stones and gold gems from previous kits to give more texture.

At the bottom right side of the layout I created another little collage using the same elements as the left side.

Hope you enjoyed my layouts and will visit again.  Kits are available here.  Thanks for looking and hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Altered Mixed Media Frame - June Seaside Kit

Hello Blog Friends!
Today I am sharing the "Multicraft Import Wood Photo Frame" included in the Creativity Add On of the June Scraps of Darkness Seaside Kit.
You can find the kit here and the creativity add on here.

Here I go with the Art Dolls again! This one went fishing!

I painted on a layer of gesso then used the Tim Holtz Burlap stencil and scraped a layer of the white Impasto Paint found in the Creativity Add On over the stencil. I used this all over the frame. The Impasto Paint is a very thick acrylic and works well for this. Once that dried and I did help it along with a heat tool I painted over it randomly. I watered down the Cobalt Impasto Paint (also in the Creativity Add On) and used both the Prima Art Alchemy "Sparks Unicorn Hair and Metallique Coral Reef" paints. I also used a Lumiere Paint in Bronze found in my stash.

My Art Doll takes center stage. He has gone fishing and caught the 49th and Market Sand and Sea Layered Embellishments... a Starfish to be exact. He is holding it all together with the Blue Fern Studios Anchors Away Chipboard. Both found in the Elements Add On.  The Main Kit included the WOW Whirlpool Embossing Powder. I painted on some Artisan Powder then embossed with the WOW. It created a beautiful sparkle!

Surrounding my little fishing man are a host of florals included in the Floral Add On. A mix of 49th and Market and Prima.

Melinda always includes special details in our kits. I couldn't help but create with these tiny white shells and USArtQuest Ice Queen Prills found in the Creativity Add On. They really add a special touch to your project!

A few close ups for you...

Mixed Media Monday: a gorgeous layout w/the Birds Of A Feather kit

Hello, everyone!

Sandi here with you today sharing my first project using the June Scraps of Elegance "Birds of a Feather" Kit. This gorgeous kit features BoBunny's Serendipity paper collection which is simply amazing! All the colors work so well together!

"Perfect Day"

I started by layering the BoBunny Serendipity Aviary (Paper Add-on) and Flight papers together. I love the look of wooden slats (Flight)  and tried to play those up with a bit of distressing here and there before adhering to the Aviary paper. Both of these same papers were used as photo layers and built up with cardboard from the shipping package.

I pulled a Blue Fern Studios chipboard frame from my stash and covered it with white gesso. After that dried, I colorized it with the Ranger "Faded Jeans" Distress Oxide from the Color Add-on. It seemed the perfect soft blue for my project. I also used the Distress Oxide to shade around my focal area. This is sweet granddaughter Esther who was born last summer. Yes, I'm always behind but that's okay! And even though these colors are blue, I thought the bird image was ideal for a newborn photo!

After working on the background with a stencil and super heavy gesso,  I began my photo cluster. I've taken various flowers from the Floral Add-on and some of the Serendipity Noteworthy Die Cuts from the Main Kit to create a three dimensional cluster with lots of texture.

Just to play up the texture a bit, I added some art stones from my stash to finish off the project and bring the layers together. Of course, white gesso was used to blend everything.

Just a little close-up of the background and distress work.

I added a few of the butterfly die cuts to give the page a little "lift."

Now onto sharing my second project using the June "Birds of a Feather Kit" for Scraps of Elegance Kit Club.

Even before my Kit arrived, I knew I wanted to use the Khaki side of the BoBunny Serendipity Feathers paper. It's like a wonderful blank slate with a little Boho look going on in the left lower corner. It pairs beautifully with the pinky/peach tones in the Kit, especially the lovely pink and peach print paper called simply Serendipity that I tore in wide strips, punched randomly and layered under my photo of Lucille Ball (circa 1974, Mame publicity photo.)

Of course, I prepped my background with clear gesso and did a bit of stencil work before starting my photo cluster. I adhered my paper to chipboard to prevent any warping due to moisture of the wet media.

I pulled a Blue Fern Studios Shrine chipboard frame from my old design team stash and covered it with white gesso, misted it with charcoal and sprinkled some charcoal glitter chunks here and there. As I created my layers, I grabbed some of the BoBunny die cuts that co-oridinate perfectly with particular paper. These are found in the ephemera (Noteworthy) pack in the Main Kit.

This is not a great photo but shows you a close-up of the stencil work, chipboard, layers and the magnificent Prima Memory Hardware spoon from the Elements add-on. I filled it with a few art stones and filled my sweet little bottle (also Elements add-on) with a few stones and adhered that.

My florals are all from the Floral add-on.

I adore the bright green butterflies (Main Kit die cut pack) against the khaki paper. I attached those using foam squares to give them lift. Lastly, I splattered white gesso all around the photo cluster area.

Here you can see the dimension of the layout. I love texture.

This June Kit has such a wide variety of colors and embellishments! I can see lots of projects in my future!

Here's a look at the June Kit:

Weekend inspiration: mixed media beach layout w/the June Seaside Kit

Hello dear scrappy friends!!!  It's Kathy with you today with a layout using the new Scraps of Darkness June Kit "Seaside".  Wow!  Can you say beautiful (I mean the kit)?  This photo is very special to me, as it is my Dad many years ago before he passed.  He was a Navy Veteran and loved to visit lighthouses.  My sister, Cindy took this picture and when I saw the beautiful 49th and Market papers included in the Coordinating Paper Add On, I knew it would be perfect!  I did a lot of mixed media work on this one, which is not usually my comfort just have to go with the flow.  I am never sure how it will turn out, or if I will like it.  I think this one falls in the later category.  Enjoy!

I always cover my background paper with clear gesso first to make sure that the inks and other media will work best with the paper.  I used 2-3 different Lindy's Inks in blues and teals to create a focal for my photo.  I added some stamping afterwards because I thought the color was too bright and wanted to tone it down a bit.

Last week I bought some cantaloupe at Costco and the netting packaging looked perfect for this lo. So I cut it up and stretched it across the left side of the layout.  I realized that it would also work around the photo to give it a little more texture.  To make it really shine I added some Ice Resins that came in a previous kit.

I love chains and anchors so I was really tickled to find the Blue Fern Studios chipboard in the Elements Add On.  I used the Wow embossing powder from the Main kit which heats up to this incredible sparkly finish.  LOVE IT!!

Along the edge of the netting (did I mention that the netting contained cantaloupe last week?), I used the gorgeous floral vine from Prima "French Riviera" collection that is included in the Floral Add On. I tucked in some of the fabulous flowers from 49th and Market included in the Creativity Add On, added a few little seashells, and that pearl glazed pebble from the Main Kit, to create my collage. Once I was finished I frosted it with more Ice Resins to blend with the photo.

The title is 2 Crafty chipboard from my stash on which I used Archival Ink.  And at the top right I created a little grouping which I stamped around.  I used one of the stickers from the Main Kit from Kaisercraft.

I so hope you enjoyed my sharing the creative process.  Please stop by again to see what the rest of the gals have created using this fabulous kit!
